Google to Rank Mobile Friendly Sites Higher


The move for mobile friendly content increases as users turn to tablets and mobile for their main way to connect to the internet. To this end back in February Google’s Official Webmaster Central Blog announced that they will “expand the use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal, meaning more #mobilefriendly sites in search results.”

Various articles have come out and stated that this means Responsive websites will be favored or the case for responsive websites and applications has become stronger.

There is no denying the trend towards “mobile-friendly”.

Google however doesn’t call out methodology or preference between “Adaptive” or “Responsive”. They do however call out making sure that the websites are configured properly (http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2013/06/changes-in-rankings-of-smartphone_11.html?utm_source=wmc-blog&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=mobile-friendly).

There are pluses and minus of both methodologies. I’d like to hear what others think about Google’s move towards mobile-friendly and how this will effect website production and methodologies.
